เดิมทีลายไทยนั้นประดิษฐ์ขึ้นมาจากแรงบันดาลใจจากธรรมชาติ ก่อนจะถูกดัดแปลงให้เป็นลวดลายใหม่ เช่น ดอกบัว เปลวไฟ รวงข้าว หากพูดถึงลายไทยที่สำคัญๆ คนส่วนใหญ่คงนึกภาพของ “ลายกระหนก” ขึ้นมาเป็นอันดับแรก

แม้ว่าศิลปะไทยจะได้รับอิลธิพลมาจากหลายประเทศ เช่น อินเดีย จีน ขอม เขมร แต่ช่างไทยก็ได้นำไปสร้างสรรค์ พัฒนาลวดลายและฝีมือจนเป็นดั่งเอกลักษณ์ประจำชาติ ที่ซึ่งได้สอดแทรกวัฒนธรรม ขนบธรรมเนียนประเพณี และชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของคนไทยไว้ในงานชิ้นนั้นๆเสมอ

Thai Pattern was originally inspired by nature elements such as lotus, flame and rice ear, then reimagined as a new design. The “Kranok Pattern” is what most people think of when talking about Thai patterns. It doesn’t matter if traditional Thai art was influenced by a number of different cultures including India, China and Cambodia, Thais have turned it into a work of art that symbolizes the country’s identity, interfering with culture, tradition and the well-being of people.
